Thiruvananthapuram: Ahead of the Kerala Assembly election, Congress election committee meeting was convened on Thursday night. All members were strictly directed to maintain the confidential nature of the meeting. Candidate selection was the major agenda of the meeting.
It was decided in the meeting that the MPs who are in charge of the constituencies should nominate candidates and the committee members also can suggest names. They can also put forward criteria of selecting candidates. As the election is likely to be postponed to May, the members are strictly directed not to release even the list of probable candidates.
At present, the party has decided to release the candidate list only after the election notification. The probable list and candidate selection should be completed before this. It was decided not to entertain self-declaration of candidates this time. AICC members pointed out that the organisational structure should be strengthened.
More ground-level discussions should take place for preparing the election manifesto. The connection with the social groups should be strengthened, it was suggested in the meeting. A total of 26 members of the election committee attended the meeting.
