Kozhikode: Congress leaders who boycotted the recent programmes of Shashi Tharoor in Kozhikode have recently changed their stance. Kozhikode district committee has invited the Thiruvananthapuram MP to the commemoration programme of DCC former vice-president EV Usman Koya.
DCC president K Praveen Kumar confirmed the news and said Tharoor is a distinguished leader of Congress.
Last year, a controversy erupted in the state after the Youth Congress made a last-minute U-turn on a scheduled event in which Tharoor was the chief guest. It was reported that the decision was taken due to the demand of the state leadership that was wary of the 'Malabar Tour' of the MP.

Praveen said that it was a different scenario. News about Tharoor's events was cropping up as if the party was about to witness a rebel movement. In Kozhikode, the Congress was not in a position to allow rebel groups to flourish within the party. However, that situation has changed, said Praveen Kumar.
However, Praveen Kumar will not attend the commemoration ceremony of Usman Koya as he has to participate in the ‘bhoomi pooja’ of K Karunakaran Foundation. The Kozhikode DCC president has announced this to avoid any controversies caused by his non-participation in the event attended by Shashi Tharoor.
