shashi tharoor pt thomas
Kochi: Congress did injustice to late leader PT Thomas in 2014 when he was denied a seat in the Lok Sabha election, said Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor. Thomas suffered the loss because he stood for environmental protection, Tharoor said.
He was denied a ticket despite performing well in the previous term. I felt it was an injustice, he said while speaking at an event of ‘Friends of PT and Nature’.
During the period of the 15th Lok Sabha, PT Thomas fought for the implementation of the Gadgil committee report on Western Ghats protection. This was a hot topic in Idukki and the Congress feared a setback. Thomas was denied a second term and the party chose Dean Kuriakose (who is the present MP). However, LDF independent Joyce George won the polls in 2014.
