Kochi: Thrikkakara bypoll is round the corner and Congress here on Thursday took a dig at LDF by citing latter’s agenda 'restricting development of the state'.

Congress chieftains K Sudhakaran and VD Satheesan challenged the LDF to have an open debate on development projects and put forth a question: to which all developmental activities has LDF extended its support?

Sudhakaran challenged the LDF and asked whether it has guts to have an open discussion on developmental front. While Satheesan cited the instances when LDF 'opposed the development projects'. He listed the projects one by one and how LDF responded to it.

“When international airport was brought to Ernakulam district, CPM said that the flights will land only on our chests… When international stadium was built during K Karunakuran's tenure, the allegation was that the a prominent spot was turned into a playground… During the GAIL project in Oommen Chandy’s tenure, the allegation was that it’s a live bomb underground… Six years have passed and they have not done anything for the extension of UDF-brought metro rail to Thrikkakara,” Satheesan said.

Satheesan added that UDF has always welcomed development and its only concern is that such projects should not destructive in nature.
