Confusion prevails over Kummanam’s candidature; BJP list delayed
Thiruvananthapuram: A difference of opinion has arisen within BJP regarding the candidature of Kummanam Rajasekharan in Vattiyoorkavu. Though he made it clear that he will contest only if the party insists, he has not expressed his consent to the party yet.
Those who support Kummanam alleged that a conspiracy is going on against him within the party. Veteran leader and MLA O. Rajagopal had made it clear the other day that it will be Kummanam who will contest the bypoll in Vattiyoorkavu.
Campaigns for Kummanam also started after this. But later, the district committee was directed to stop the campaign according to reports. The state leadership also is clueless about the issue.
The confusions prevail when only one day is left for filing the nomination. The indefinite delay in candidate selection irked party workers as both LDF and UDF declared their candidates and started campaigns. It is learnt that the national leadership will announce the list officially by Sunday evening.
BJP election committee meeting will be convened in Delhi on Sunday evening to finalise the first list of party candidates for assembly elections in Maharashtra and Haryana. The list is likely to be released after this.
If Kummanam is not contesting, Thiruvananthapuram district president S. Suresh or executive committee member V. V. Rajesh will be made candidate. They are likely to be benefitted by the centre’s direction to consider young leaders.
K. Surendran is likely to contest bypolls from Konni. K. Sreekanth and Satheesh Bhandari are considered in Manjeshwaram. As BDJS is not contesting from Aroor, BJP will contest from there also. Yuva Morcha state president Prakash Babu is a likely candidate there. C. G. Rajagopal is considered in Ernakulam.
