Kozhikode: The meeting of NCP convened here on Thursday turned into a conflict over the candidature of Transport Minister AK Saseendran in Elathoor here. The meeting was convened under the leadership of party state president TP Peethambaran and was attended by Saseendran and others.

While a section of party workers demanded that those who contested the election for two times earlier should stay away, another section demanded Saseendran should contest the election. The first group has suggested the name of district president Mukkam Muhammad as the candidature.

LDF has offered three seats to NCP in this election. In Kuttanad, Thomas K Thomas will be fielded while a Muslim candidate will be fielded in Kottakkal. Hence it should be a Hindu candidate in Elathoor, opine Saseendran supporters.

Saseendran has contested polls eight times with two from Elathoor alone. Following this, it was suggested that he should keep away from the contest.

Meanwhile, it is also feared that if the issue is not resolved amicably, CPM may take back the seat. However, it may not happen as Elathoor seat is unlikely to be given away by NCP as their survival depends on it.
