Confidential information leaks from Police, DGP seeks govt’s permission for probe
Thiruvananthapuram: The state police chief Loknath Behera approached the state government seeking a probe into the leakage of confidential information from police headquarters. The top cop submitted a detailed report to the government asserting the leakage of crucial information from police.
It is learned that the DGP was irked by the news reports which landed Kerala police in trouble. He assumed that details including purchase of bulletproof vehicles were leaked from the police headquarters.
Recently, Kerala police faced numerous allegations on irregularities. The CAG report pointed out diversion of the central fund reserved for modernisation of Kerala police.
The CAG report also uncovered many secret deals of Kerala police in the name of KELTRON. Following the CAG report, more allegations were raised against the Kerala police. In view of this, DGP suspect information leakage from the police headquarters.
Media received all details on the traffic renovation project which was carried out under a technical committee of top cops. DGP was flayed over the allegations against the Kerala police.
Earlier, DGP expressed disappointment to higher police officials over the leakage of information from police headquarters. If a special investigation team is appointed, with the approval of the government, to probe the matter, police will be able to take stern steps against the suspect including phone-tapping.
