Complete medical check-up of accused in police custody: Circular frozen
Thiruvananthapuram: The health department froze the order that directs to check the functioning of the kidney and other physical condition of persons under police custody when they are taken for medical examination.
The Director of Health Services gave the circular to the medical officers directing to conduct detailed examination on the basis of the recommendations made by Justice Narayana Kurup Commission.
Completing the detailed examination within 24 hours is not practical and the director issued the fresh circular freezing the old one.
The Jail DGP also had issued directions in this regard. As this led to a controversy, the Director of Health services froze the previous circular.
The police associations filed a complaint to the chief minister and the police chief against the circular of the health department. Jail DGP Rishiraj Singh also had forwarded a letter in this regard.
