Compensation upto Rs 5 lakh to stray dog-bite victims
Sreekandapuram: The state government has issued an order asking local self-governments to give compensation to 104 stray dog-bite victims across the state. As per the order, the local self-government bodies should shell out a total amount of Rs 60.11 lakh as compensation to the victims.
The government has fixed the compensation amount according to a Supreme Court verdict and recommendation of Justice Siri Jagan committee appointed to recommend compensation to stray dog-bite victims.
According to the official order, a maximum amount of Rs 5 lakh will be given to each victim in stray dog attack. A minimum amount of Rs 8500 should be given to the victims.
The official reports say that a total of 14 people are listed for the compensation of Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh.
It is for the first time in history that such huge amount is allotted as compensation to stray dog-bite victims.
Justice Siri Jagan committee has rejected two complaints after founding that they were attacked by their own dogs. Another two complaints were rejected as the complainants had failed to produce evidence.
Local self-government bodies should find the compensation amount from their own fund.
