Commissioner admits to lapses in Kochi flat rape case; second complaint too will be probed
Kochi: The main accused in the Kochi flat rape case, Martin Joseph, was arrested by police from Thrissur district on Thursday night. Martin was named accused in the alleged rape and sexual torture of a 27-year-old woman at a flat in Kochi and he was nabbed from Mundoor in Thrissur and then brought to Kochi.
Kochi police commissioner C H Nagaraju in a press meet on Friday accepted of lapses from the part of the police in the delay in nabbing the accused. He said that the seriousness of the case came to light only after media brought out the photos and news of the brutal sexual assault.
Another complaint similar to the one given by the victim in Kochi was also filed against Martin Joseph. The police will investigate the second complaint too. Police said the team will investigate in detail about any other complaints lodged against Martin. The financial dealings of the accused will also be probed in detail, the commissioner said.
Police also arrested three of Martin’s accomplices Sreerag, John Joy and Dhanesh. The trio had helped Martin to escape from Kochi to Thrissur. The three are being interrogated at the Kochi central police station.
The woman had filed a complaint on April 8 after escaping from a flat and accused Martin of brutal sexual torture during the lockdown period. A case has been registered against Martin under IPC 323, 324, 344, 376, 420 and 506.
