Commission recommends bus fare hike, limitation of distance in minimum fare
Thiruvananthapuram: Justice Ramachandran Commission proposed to increase the bus fare in the state in view of the financial crisis faced by the transport sector amid the pandemic outbreak. The commission has submitted the interim report regarding this to the government. In the report, the commission recommended to increase the bus fares in various levels and limit the distance of travel for the minimum fare.
It is reported that the commission’s report includes recommendations for a fare hike at various levels. The report proposed a fare hike of 30 percent for ordinary bus services, 40 percent and 50 percent for other services.
It is learned that the commission has submitted the report as a temporary solution to address the financial crisis of the transport sector. It is learned that the commission did not prepare a final report on this.
Justice Ramachandran Commission submitted the report to the Transport secretary on Thursday night. Transport minister and other officials will discuss about the report on Friday morning. After the discussions, the transport department will forward the report to the Chief Minister.
