Kollam: The State Commissionerate For Persons with Disabilities is planning to take stringent action against government employees misbehaving with differently-abled people.

The move was taken following complaints against policemen misbehaving with differently abled people. Following which, the commissioner wrote a letter to the government seeking to provide training for the employees.

Initially, the employees will be given awareness about the rights of differently abled people. After which, for every misbehaviour, they will be charged a fine of up to Rs 5 lakh. Reportedly, prosecution procedures will also be initiated against them.

In the first phase, the police officers will be trained about the procedures to be followed and the sections to be imposed in case of violence against differently-abled persons.

The commissionerate is also planning to expand the awareness programme to other departments and hospitals.
