Thiruvananthapuram: R Bindu, Minister of Higher Education, stated that a convenient schedule can be chosen when classes start in colleges from October 4. The three schedules were prepared last year and the college councils can choose any one. The schedules given were from 8.30 AM to 2.30 PM, 9.00 AM to 4 PM and 9.30 AM to 4.30 PM.
The meeting of principals decided that if any of the students in the class go Covid positive, those in contact must go under quarantine. Covid vigilance committees are needed at the institutional-level with ward councillors, health / Asha workers, PTA officers etc. as members. Institutions will organise a vaccination drive to make available a single dose of vaccine. Heads of institutions were instructed to prepare a list of students who have not been vaccinated and contact the health department.
Public transport will be ensured for travel of students. Principals were instructed to ask collectors to give back the colleges and hostels that operated as CFLTCs. Also, principals demanded the release of teachers and staff working as sectoral magistrates. Library and lab fees must be paid upon opening of colleges.
The minister said that when a batch comes to college, it can be decided at the institutional level, whether others should engage in online classes or not. It is proposed to develop a learning management system that can take classes on the online platform. Final year students will be given classes in batches on alternate days.
