Coir corporation begins efforts to find market for products worth Rs 20 crore

Alappuzha: The coir corporation has begun efforts to find a market for products worth Rs 20 crore as part of government intervention to overcome the crisis in the traditional coir sector. The government has announced a 40 per cent subsidy for this. The cooperation of government, public and private institutions have also been sought.

Products worth Rs 40 crore have piled up with the coir corporation. The decision is to sell products worth Rs 20 crore from this.

The department has received an order worth Rs 15 lakh from SN Trust institutions. Coir minister P Rajeev will inaugurate the corporation’s marketing activities by handing over this order. The activities will begin on January 20 at Kanichukulangara.

Discussions with Kerala Bank, SC ST Development Corporation and several private companies on buying coir products are in their final phase.

The corporation may also reach an agreement with the Public Works Department to increase the use of coir products in construction works.
