Thiruvananthapuram: Two coastal police officers and a coast guard were allegedly abducted by fishermen when the officials tried to stop them from fishing using banned nets. The coastal police force from Anchuthengu arrived later and rescued the abducted officers.

Vizhnjam Coastal Police arrived at the spot after being tipped off that around 15 boats were engaged in fishing using banned nets near Thumba and also violating trawling ban. Police entered the boats that were fishing and directed the men inside to take the boats to Vizhinjam. However, the boats sped towards Anchuthengu instead with the policemen on board. The officers were also reportedly threatened by the men on boats.

Coastal Police officers ASI Ajith, CPO Vinod, and Coast Guard Susan are the ones who were abducted.

Coastal police informed that action will be taken against the fishermen for abducting police officers and violating the ban on trawling.
