Kozhikode: Hitting out at the Kerala government, opposition leader VD Satheesan on Thursday said that the order to raise the retirement age of employees of Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) could not be issued without the knowledge of the chief minister or the cabinet. Accusing Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan of trying to save his face, he said if the order was issued without anyone’s knowledge, he should remove the minister who signed it.

The Congress leader said that the chief minister was trying to dodge the issue after the controversy broke out. Demanding the complete withdrawal of the order, Satheesan said that there were a number of anti-worker clauses in it.

The opposition leader said that a decision to protest against the government on pressing matters was taken at a meeting of the UDF and the Congress. He also said that the government has not taken any steps to control the price hike.

About the AICC chief’s statement on the Governor-state government issue, Satheesan said that the news was made out of thin air by some journalists in Delhi. He said that the Congress’ stand on a national level is that the party would not support the governor if he takes any unconstitutional positions. The state leadership also has the same stand, he added.

Congress and the opposition were the main critics of the governor. When Governor Arif Mohammed Khan said he wanted a minister removed, we said that he did not have the authority for it. However, the governor and the government were together in the issue of the university VCs and they lost in the Supreme Court, he added. Further, the opposition leader said that the VCs who were appointed against the rules should resign.
