Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala said that the amendment to the police act is an infringement of the fundamental rights assured by the Indian Constitution. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is treading over freedom of speech and rights in a way similar to that of Adolf Hitler, Chennithala said at a protest organised by the UDF against the Police Act amendment.
The ordinance is anti-democratic and anti-social. What emergency situation exists in Kerala to enforce this ordinance? The government should have proceeded with this after discussing its pros and cons in the assembly. Instead they implemented it unilaterally. I had forwarded a letter to the Governor against this, Chennithala said.
The government should apologize by withdrawing this law which will end up in the trashcan of the history. The first complaint as per the new law was registered in Valappadu station in Thrissur, he pointed out.
Kerala should stand together against this move to silence those who bravely voice their opinion. All renowned writers and leaders in the country have come up against this law. So, the government should withdraw the same, Chennithala said.
