Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan summoned a meeting of Muslim organisations to discuss the issues related to the appointments in the Waqf Board. The meeting will be held at Thiruvananthapuram on March 20.

IUML national general secretary PK Kunhalikutty demanded the CM to clarify the policy of government in the Board appointments. He said even the government has no idea over why the appointments have been left in the purview of the Public Service Commission. The Waqf Board is funded by the believers and the appointments shall not be transferred to the PSC, opined Kunhalikutty.

Kunhalikutty asserted that the CM had assured to pull back from the government’s move. However, the Waqf minister V Abdurahiman has declared to enforce the policy. Hence, the government should make explicit whether the CM's decision or the minister's stubbornness is final in the matter.

Abdurahiman, in the Assembly, had clarified that the government is moving ahead with the decision. Samastha leaders had earlier said that the CM assured them to take a relook into the matter.
