Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday asked the Congress and Indian Union Muslim League to introspect why the holy Quran was dragged into controversies.

It was BJP-RSS who created the allegation that gold was smuggled in the backdrop of Quran. They had vested interests behind it. But soon after, UDF leaders including UDF Convener took up these and wrote to Prime Minister complaining the same. Also Congress and Muslim League leaders raised these allegations publically, CM said.

Muslim League should respond on why they dragged holy Quran into controversy as they alleged gold was smuggled along with holy text. The UDF leaders repeated the allegations raised by BJP leaders and gave wide publicity to it, Pinarayi Vijayan alleged.

Kunhalikutty should realize the mistake and rectify it. They should regret in using Quran to attack the government, he added.

CM also said that it was UAE consulate general who asked KT Jaleel if it was possible to distribute Quran along with Ramzan kits. Jaleel helped him. But now opposition is alleging this deed as gold smuggling, CM further stated.
