CM protecting Anthoor municipality chairperson, says officials to be blamed
Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, in the Assembly, took the stance to protect Anthoor municipality chairperson P K Shyamala in connection with the suicide of the expatriate industrialist Sajan allegedly after his auditorium was denied licence. The CM is of the stance that officials at the municipality are responsible for the suicide.
The secretaries at local self-government institutes have enormous powers now. This should be curtailed. If secretary has a different opinion, it should be recorded in the minutes. The panchayat, municipality laws will be amended accordingly for this.
At the same time, CM didn’t accept the argument of the Opposition that a case should be registered against Shyamala for abetment to suicide.
“Turning the case around with vested interests and politically making it against the CPM will not be allowed,” he said.
“No one should think that one can attack the communist leaders inside the Assembly. Everyone knows M V Govindan Master. Don’t oppose CPM using P Jayarajan. However, if anyone has committed offence, action will be taken without any party affiliation,” he added.
Pinarayi Vijayan was responding to the emergency resolution debate brought by opposition on Anthoor suicide.
Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala alleged that the sectarianism in CPM was the reason behind Anthoor suicide and CM is trying to protect Shyamala.
