Thiruvananthapuram: In view of the heavy rains, the Kerala government has decided to extend the reopening of higher educational institutions in the state. Hence, all these institutions scheduled to reopen on October 18 will start operation from October 20. The decision was taken at a high-level meeting convened by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan here on Saturday.
The meeting also decided to restrict Sabarimala pilgrimage till October 19 as the IMD has predicted heavy rains in the state till this date. Traffic is also restricted in hilly areas.
Minister of Revenue K Rajan, Chief Secretary V P Joy, state police chief Anil Kant, secretaries of various departments, chiefs, district collectors, representatives of various forces and representatives of the National Disaster Response Force also participated in the meeting.
