Thiruvananthapuram: Over thousands of kids marked their first step to education by joining schools for the first time. Wearing new dress and with new bags, umbrellas and books, they reached schools on Friday. All schools have arranged grand reopening ceremony called ‘Pravesanolsavam’.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the state level ‘Pravesanolsavam’ at Nedumangadu Girls' Higher Secondary School.
“Public Schools have played vital role in promoting secularism in the state. Schools are the source of achievements in a nation,” said Chief Minister in his inaugural speech.
The department of general education analysed that this year more children are taken to school following the government’s Public Education Rejuvenation Mission. According to official records, compared to last year number of students in first standard has increased by 10 per cent.
Meanwhile, school reopening date has been postponed in Kozhikode and Malappuram districts in the wake of Nipah virus outbreak. The schools in Kozhikode and Malappuram will reopen on June 5 and June 6 respectively.
