CM deputed me as point of contact to UAE consulate, Sivasankar tells ED
Kochi: M Sivasankar has revealed that Swapna Suresh, accused in the gold smuggling case, approached him to release the diplomatic baggage which carried the gold.
In his statement to the Enforcement Directorate, Sivasankar said that Swapna contacted him twice to release the baggage from the custody of customs at the airport but he refused.
Sivasankar also confirmed the part in Swapna’s statement where he was mentioned as the point of contact. At the same time, the IAS officer made some corrections in Swapna’s statement on point of contact.
Swapna had told the officials that the Chief Minister had suggested M Sivasankar as the point of contact for the UAE consul, following a meeting between the CM and the UAE consulate general at Cliff house in 2017.
But correcting Swapna’s statement, Sivasankar revealed that CM deputed him as the point of contact to UAE consulate in 2016. He also dismissed Swapna’s statement regarding the meeting in 2017. Sivasankar asserted that he had no idea about the meeting.
However, Sivasankar told the probe officials that the Chief Minister was unaware about Swapna’s appointment in Space Park. Explaining this appointment, Sivasankar stated that the CM was not informed as Swapna's appointment was temporary.
At the same time, Sivasankar also dismissed Swapna’s argument on helping her secure a job at Space Park.
“I permitted her to add my name as a reference in her biodata. I did not recommend her for PwC,” said Sivasankar. He also refuted all of Swapna's arguments related to her appointment in Space Park.
At the same time, Sivasankar refused to respond to Swapna’s statement that she met Sivasankar multiple times in the presence of the CM.
Sivasankar also revealed that Swapna and her husband visited him at his residence a day before the gold was seized. During the interrogation by ED, Sivasankar confessed that Swapna and her husband visited him to discuss shifting to the new flat and that they looked worried.
