CM announces financial aid for expat Keralites
Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan stated that a financial aid will be provided for NRKs through Norka Roots and Kerala Pravasi Welfare Fund in the backdrop of COVID-19 outbreak. Rs 1000 will be granted for all pensioners who are members of the Pravasi Welfare Fund in addition to the pension amount. A total of 15,000 people will be benefited from this aid.
All COVID-19 positive patients, who are members of the welfare fund, will be provided Rs 10,000 as emergency aid. Norka will grant Rs 5000 as emergency relief aid to all those who came back from foreign countries to Kerala after January 1, 2020 with valid passports and work visas and could not go back and those whose visa expired in the lockdown period.
COVID-19 will be included in the list of palliative care diseases. Thus Rs 10,000 can be provided to the COVID-19 positive expats who are not members of the welfare fund. The chief minister added that the difficulties faced by the expats is really saddening and everyone should unite to intervene in the issues.
The chief minister also said that the government is trying to bring the problems of expats to the attention of the Centre, embassy, NGOs and other eminent personalities among the NRKs. Norka and the government are ready to make all possible interventions to get help for the expats. We will definitely survive this crisis, he added.
