Manikyan

Alappad (Kollam): With full energey, centenarian Manikyan went to cast vote in the assembly election on Tuesday. He exercised his franchise at his alma mater Alappad Government LP School.

Though the election officials had visited him at his residence earlier for facilitating postal ballot, 103-year-old Manikyan requested them to return. “I have climbed coconut tree for tapping toddy at the age of 80. Then why can’t I go to the booth to cast vote now?” the senior voter asked.

Apart from minor hearing complaints, he has no serious health problems. He engages in farming works from daybreak. His wife Devaki expired 8 years ago. Manikyan came to cast vote with his son-in-law. When asked about who will win the polls, he replied with a smile, “Only our candidate will win.…”
