Classes in University college will be held under police protection: Additional Director of Education
Thiruvananthapuram: In the backdrop of clashes and tension at the University college here, classes will be held under police protection, said K. K. Suma, Additional Director of Education. She clarified that the directorate of education has taken several decisions to ensure normalcy inside the college campus.
The Students Federation of India (SFI) union office inside the campus has been cleared and it will be used as a classroom from now on. The new stance is that the room must not be used for any other purpose. The faculty members have ensured cooperation and support to bring back a peaceful environment that helps learning, Suma said.
Those who drop out of courses will not be readmitted in the University college. Only those securing the highest marks through regular studies will be admitted in the college. An internal committee will be established in each department. The responsibility of each class will be given to a tutor. Classes will be held under the supervision of respective department heads and the principal, Suma added.
The Chief Superintendent of Examination has been temporarily removed from his position. A new office for examination related needs will be opened tomorrow. Other examinations including PSC will not be conducted at the University college.
The campus will be renewed by removing the posters, graffiti and writings on walls. The police department has offered assistance in this regard. The higher education department will lead the renovation, Suma said.
