Sandeep
Kottayam: A Class 11 student, who attended a National Service Scheme (NSS) camp at Manarcad Government UP School, died on Saturday. The student, Sandeep (16), is son of Thiruvanchoor native Samanth and Sindhu. He was a student of GHSS, Areeparambu.
Sandeep’s relatives created ruckus at the hospital alleging his death was caused due to delay from the part of teachers in taking him to the hospital. The relatives said Sandeep was under treatment for epilepsy and the school authorities were informed about this.
The students at the NSS camp, including Sandeep, had gone to paint the Manarcad Anganwadi. School authorities told the police that after returning at around 3 pm, Sandeep went to bed as he felt tired. Teachers informed the family as he did not wake up when they called him after 5:30 pm.
Sandeep’s father reached the school at around 6:30 pm and found that his body was cold. He was then taken to the Manarcad St Mary’s Hospital. His relatives said that the doctors informed them Sandeep had died half-an-hour before. Manarcad police has registered a case in the matter. Sandeep’s post mortem would be conducted on Sunday.
The school headmistress said Sandeep went to bed after lunch at around 4 pm and was taken to the hospital as he did not get up after 6 pm. She added that Sandeep had slept the previous days too. The headmistress also said his family had earlier informed that Sandeep sleeps for three to four hours after consuming medicine.
