Kozhikode: The state unit of BJP is going through a crisis as they could not make the expected gains in the local body election. State president K Surendran pointed out in a press conference held here that the leaders who stayed away from the campaign will have to face action.
When asked if the party would take action against Sobha Surendran for not being part of the campaign, Surendran responded that some leaders failed to cooperate with the campaign and the party meeting will decide the action to be taken.
In protest over the party reorganisation, a group of leaders including Sobha Surendran refused to cooperate with the election campaign. Meanwhile, Sobha Surendran and her supporters also alleged that K Surendran is trying to blame them for the poll debacle.
Sobha Surendran faction claimed that Surendran is infuriated as he did not follow the instruction of the veteran leaders of RSS to assign Sobha Surendran for campaigning and this reflected in the election results.
BJP was defeated in over 1200 seats not only because of Sobha Surendran’s absence but the immature political stance of the state president and his vengeance towards colleagues. The sitting seats were lost all over the state due to lapses from the part of the state leadership, they blamed.
Meanwhile, state president K Surendran claimed that this was the best performance of BJP in the history of the party. They got representation in over 300 panchayats when compared to the previous year. 1200 seats were lost as LDF and UDF joined hands to defeat BJP, he alleged.
