Clash over arranging security for Patriarch of Antioch during Kerala visit
Kochi: The headquarters of Jacobite Church at Puthenkurish witnessed a clash between KEFA (Knights of the Eternal Fraternity with Antioch) and a rival faction over arranging security for Patriarch of Antioch Ignatius Aphrem II who is scheduled to visit Kerala soon.
KEFA was established at St. Mary's Jacobite Syrian Cathedral in Manarcad in 2002. The same year, a parallel organization in the same name was established by a rival faction and this created a conflict within the church.
When Ignatius Aphrem II visited Kerala, KEFA used to provide additional security besides the police security arranged by the government. But this time, the rival faction demanded the right to arrange security for the Patriarch of Antioch during his scheduled visit to the state.
The two fractions had organized a meeting at the Patriarch center in Puthenkurish to discuss the matter. During the meeting, a verbal argument between the followers of the Patriarch of Antioch and the rival faction snowballed into a clash.
Meanwhile, the two fractions are now gearing up to approach the DGP seeking permission to provide private security to the Patriarch of Antioch.
