Church would have collapsed if I had responded to protestors: Mar Alencherry
Kochi: Cardinal Mar George Alencherry criticised the rebel priests saying the priests misled people culminating in protests.
Alencherry said this when Catholic Congress authorities visited him at Kakkanad Mount St. Thomas, which is the church headquarters. One among them shot the visuals of the meeting in mobile phone and handed it over to the media.
Mar George Alencherry said he did not expect such a protest from the part of the priests and the motive behind it is still unclear.
‘Those who lead the protests are fully aware that there was no lapse from my part. But they mislead others and started protests. I am not ready to respond to these statements and protests. If I had started responding to these kinds of statements, then the entire church would have collapsed,’ he said.
‘As far as the church is concerned, materialistic objects are necessary to an extent. No intentional faults have occurred from my part in any matter. The ongoing court proceedings and protests have caused severe pain to the church. I will inform the synod what I have to say and the synod will take an appropriate action,’ he added.
