Kochi: The mouthpiece of the Ernakulam-Angamaly Archdiocese of Syro-Malabar Church slammed the controversial remarks of its Thalassery Archbishop Mar Joseph Pamplany on BJP as a "failed statement.”
The thought that helping BJP to win a parliament member from Kerala would solve everything is childish, noted the editorial of ‘Sathyadeepam’. The statement of the Archbishop belittled the negligence of governments towards farmers. Their “self-respect was pawned for a mere Rs 300,” the editorial criticised. Pamplany had stated during a meeting that the BJP’s dearth of an MP from Kerala would be addressed if they ensured the price of one kilogram of natural rubber touhes Rs 300.
The editorial questioned how the BJP, whose policies are fundamentally anti-farmers, be projected as their protector. It noted that the price slump of rubber was not the only issue faced by farmers. Other cash crops and produce also are causing loss for farmers. Offering an MP for BJP only based on the price of rubber was dangerous, it noted.
