Church dispute: SC flays state govt, warns of jail imprisonment to chief secretary
New Delhi: The apex court came down heavily against the state government on the Orthodox-Jacobite church issue. The court flayed the state govt while it was hearing the petition relating to the issues of St Mary’s church Varikoli and St Mary’s church Kattachira.
Justice Arun Mishra observed that the state was trying to overrule the order of the SC. Justice Mishra issued a warning to the state that if ever it tries to overrule the order then the chief secretary would be called upon and imprisoned.
He also said that someone should try to apprise the Kerala chief secretary about what happened to the Bihar chief secretary. The justice was enraged over the developments.
The court asked if the Kerala government is above the law and is the state attempting to delay implementation of the verdict. The top court said it cannot have any more tolerance and directed the counsel to apprise the chief secretary of the matter.
The issue relates to dispute between the Orthodox and Jacobite factions to the pending disputes.
