Church dispute: Govt to bring in ordinance to bury dead in family tombs


After the Supreme Court announced a verdict in favour of the Orthodox faction, there has been disputes at several churches over burying bodies in the cemetery.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government is bringing an ordinance to avoid problems during burying the dead due to church disputes.

Following the dispute between Orthodox and Jacobite factions, the government has decided to introduce an ordinance which lets relatives of the deceased to bury the body in the family tomb at the church cemetery. The church dispute will not affect the burial.

A special cabinet meeting on Wednesday decided to introduce an ordinance in this regard.

After the Supreme Court announced a verdict in favour of the Orthodox faction, there has been disputes at several churches over burying bodies in the cemetery.

Even the Human Rights Commission had urged the government to intervene in the issue. It is in this situation that the government is going to introduce the new law.
