Thiruvananthapuram: Shashi Tharoor, who is looking to gain the support of fellow party leaders ahead of the election to the office of Indian National Congress president, will campaign in Kerala for three days. Earlier this week, Thiruvananthapuram MP visited former chief minister Oommen Chandy.
Tharoor aims to earn the support of KPCC members who face a dilemma over choosing their man for the post after some senior party leaders openly expressed their displeasure with Tharoor's candidacy. However, Tharoor will be looking to cash in on the Nehru family's assurance that they don't favour any particular candidate. Additionally, anonymous voting also gives hope for Tharoor. He has said he will get conscience votes.
Earlier, some Youth Congress leaders in the state had expressed their support for Tharoor. The MP's call for support to bring changes in the existing party system will resonate with more youth leaders in the state, he believes.
Meanwhile, former opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala has started campaigning for Mallikarjun Kharge outside Kerala.
