Chennithala alleges land scam over wayside refreshment centre project in Kerala
Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala has come out with another serious allegation against the LDF government here on Monday. He alleged that the PWD issued an order to handover the public property to private groups under the roadside refreshment centre project. The project aims to establish 14 refreshment centres near National Highways and State Highways in the state.
“The PWD issued an order for the project allowing the private groups to acquire public properties. The Kerala Assembly and the public should realize the drama behind executing the project. Through this order, PWD granted permission to issue tender for acquiring more than one-acre land in 14 spots for establishing the refreshment centres,” alleged Chennithala.
He pointed out that the PWD issued an order after a decision was taken in the meeting summoned by Chief Minister on December 28, 2019.
"It is a serious concern that the CM decided to allow private groups to acquire the land by dismissing the proposal of Indian Oil Corporation, a public sector firm. Indian Oil Corporation offered the government that they will pay 5 percent of the land’s market value as the amount for lease. But the government refused to accept this offer and decided to issue the land for lease to private parties by collecting 5 percent of the land’s fair value. That means the government is leasing out the land to private groups for an amount less than quoted by IOC. But the finance department intervened in the matter and decided to lease out the land for 5 percent of market value,” alleged the opposition leader.
He also criticized the CM for being ignorant of the illegal activities at his office adding a robbers’ gang is ruling Kerala.
