Chennai-Mangalore Mail derails in Shoranur; Rail traffic disrupted
Shoranur: In a morning mishap, Chennai-Mangalore Superfast Mail (12601) got derailed near Shoranur railway station. No serious case of injuries is reported yet. The train derailed near the yard close to the area where trains enter to Shoranur station from Palakkad direction. Railway has informed that rail traffic through Shoranur has been temporarily stopped.
Apart from the engine, two bogies also were derailed. Parcel van and SLR coach following it moved off the track. The electric posts near the track are damaged following the mishap.
With this, the rail traffic from Shoranur to Kozhikode, Thrissur and Palakkad directions have been disrupted. The train movement in Thrissur-Palakkad route is not affected.
As signal system was damaged, efforts to install an alternate facility is progressing. Railway informed that traffic will be restored soon as emergency equipment including breakup van are available in Shoranur.
