Chengannur: It was like just another Sunday for Pushpalatha, Junior Public Health Nurse at Chengannur district hospital. She started her shift at 9.30 AM at the Covid-19 vaccination centre of the hospital. Only a few of her colleagues were present as it was a holiday. She couldn’t rest more than half an hour before her shift ended at 5.30 pm. In the meantime, she administered vaccines to 893 people, setting a new state record.

Although Pushpalatha shared the news with her friends, she was not aware of the gravity until the JPHN union said it is a state record.

The vaccine is given using auto-disable syringe. It helps to get the 5 ml dose from the vial. It takes 2-30 seconds to administer it to one person. The PP unit of the Chengannur district hospital is my strength, Pushpalatha said. She is happy that the work of the junior health nurses is getting recognised.
