Thiruvilwamala (Thrissur): The forensic department and the police have reached the preliminary conclusion that an explosion caused by chemicals inside a mobile phone may have led to the death of an eight-year-old girl in Thiruvilwamala, Thrissur. The phone's battery may have overheated, causing the release of its lithium content under high pressure.
On Monday, Pattiparambu native Adithyasree, daughter of Ashok Kumar and Soumya, lost her life after a mobile phone exploded while she was watching videos on the device. The incident took place around 10.30 pm.
According to reports, the mobile phone exploded with a loud noise while Adithyasree, a Class 3 student at Christ New Life School in Thiruvilwamala, was lying on her bed watching videos. Her grandmother and neighbours immediately rushed to her room and found her lying in a pool of blood.
However, there was no damage to the bed or the room from the explosion. The mobile phone used by the girl was over three years old, and its battery had been replaced only once. Experts speculate that the battery may have overheated due to excessive use of the phone, resulting in the unfortunate incident.
The investigation was carried out by a team of officers led by Kunnamkulam ASP TS Sinoj and Pazhayannur police inspector Bindu Lal, and a team of forensic experts.
The funeral took place around 3 pm on Tuesday.
