They also demanded to give prominence to protection of the shore instead of rehabilitation.
Police and Fire and Rescue Service Personnel had assembled at the shore in the context of the protest. Priests from different churches also attended the protest which was supported by hundreds of women and men.
“We demand that our lives and properties be protected by constructing a sea wall and Pulimuttu. We are demanding the right to live on the land in which we were born. The nature of the protest will change if the authorities are not yet ready to listen to our demands. At least our children should be able to live here peacefully”, Ismariya, one of the organisers of the protest, told mathrubhumidotcom.
