Kadakkavoor: A woman's burnt remains were found inside a house in Vakkom on Sunday. Her son, Vishnu (32), was apprehended by the police shortly after and subsequently confessed to the crime.

Vishnu stated to the police that he arrived at his mother Janani's (59) house at around 2:30 am on Sunday and set her on fire. He was admitted to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College with burn injuries to his hands and legs.

According to Police, Vishnu is a drug addict and has previously attacked his mother, as well as his brother Bijin and sister Biji. Janani was divorced and had been looking after the family for some time.

Due to Vishnu's violent behaviour, Janani and Bijin moved to a new house. Biji also left Vishnu to live with her husband. However, Janani regularly visited Vishnu and cooked food for him.

It is suspected that Janani visited Vishnu on Saturday to prepare food when he attacked her and set her on fire. Police have reason to believe that Vishnu also sustained injuries while attempting to commit suicide.
