Thrissur: Taking a dig at actor and former MP Suresh Gopi, CPM state secretary MV Govindan said here on Sunday that charity cannot be considered as politics. The leader made the remarks when asked about whether he was concerned about Suresh Gopi’s charity works in Thrissur.

“The BJP’s vote share is significantly declining in Thrissur. Social service is a voluntary service. It is not part of political activities. The voters of Kerala will realise the BJP’s move to convert charity into politics. Voters will take care of it as they have done before,” said Govindan.

He further said, “It is wrong to use charity politically. If one attempts to convert charity into politics, then it can only be termed politics. Suresh Gopi will not win even if he camps in Thrissur for all 365 days.”

The leader went on to say that the CPM is attempting to unite all the anti-BJP votes. "We will try to consider each state as a unit and unite all the anti-BJP votes and let a capable candidate win,” he added.
