Thiruvananthapuram: Food Minister GR Anil alleged that certain people tried to create a fuss by arguing that Onam kit distribution through ration shops faced setbacks in the last few days. He pointed out that his department received information that individuals with a particular political affiliation have conspired to create panic by claiming shortage of Onam food kits.
"Earlier, middlemen used to intervene in the food distribution system in the state. It is not the case now. They claimed there was a shortage in Onam kits even after 80% of kits were distributed through ration shops. There were indeed shortcomings on the part of some ration shops. However, such issues were resolved by the department promptly," minister GR Anil said in a press conference.
A total of 84,01,328 kits were distributed till 10 am on Monday. 96.96 per cent of yellow card holders and 97.56 per cent of pink card holders collected food kits from ration shops. Meanwhile, 91.69 per cent of kits were handed over to Blue card holders and 80.45 percent to white card holders.
