Centre to step in for release of Atlas Ramachandran
Pathanamthitta: The intervention of Ministry of External Affairs has been sought for the release of the jewellery group owner and industrialist Atlas Ramachandran.
Ramachandran has been jailed in Dubai since 2015 for defaulting bank loan payment. Ramachandran’s family members had discussed the issue with BJP state president Kummanam Rajasekharan. The details of liabilities have been handed over to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and BJP General Secretary Ram Madhav.
It is learnt that the opposition parties have agreed to settle 11 out of the 12 main cases. They have been informed of the details of assets owned by Ramachandran in India and abroad. The mediators have convinced them that Ramachandran can repay the loans as soon as he is released.
After filing the details of assets, the banks have informed that they would withdraw the cases, if Ramachandran filed an affidavit. Necessary documents have been handed over through the Embassy.
A case with two Gujarat natives is yet to be settled. They are residents of Delhi, and have not agreed to compromise in the initial discussions. Ramachandran’s release will be effortless if they agree to withdraw the case. His family members wish to bring him home as his health is deteriorating. Ram Madhav, who is in charge of the foreign cells of BJP, have discussed the issue with people concerned.
Kummanam Rajasekharan said that Ramachandran will soon be released as most of the cases have been settled. The ministry of foreign Affairs also will intervene in this as a human right issue, he added.
