Thiruvananthapuram: Former Chief Minister and Congress Working Committee member Oommen Chandy urged the central government to withdraw the new farm laws.
As the Supreme Court has stayed implementing the new laws, the Centre should swallow its pride and withdraw the draconian laws.
The farmers should not be punished anymore by appointing a one sided expert panel and dragging the matter into the court. Members of the expert panel are all supportive of the agriculture reforms. The need of the hour is an expert panel that is accepted by the farmers, he said.
When farmers themselves oppose reforms in agriculture laws, the Centre should understand that the laws are not for agriculturists, the senior Congress leader said.
Oommen Chandy lauded the farmers who had been protesting peacefully for over one and a half months braving the cold and rain. “This is a matter of life or death for the farmers. Congress supports the farmers and will continue its fight against the draconian laws,” he added.
