New Delhi: Congress leader Kodikunnil Suresh on Monday said that the NITI Aayog’s recommendation to discontinue functioning of the rubber board is unjust.

“The Union Ministry of Commerce should reject the NITI Aayog’s demand. The issue should be discussed in the Lok Sabha,” said Suresh.

“Around 13 lakh small scale farmers of the state depend on rubber cultivation for their livelihood. A public sector agency like the rubber board’s assistance and support must be ensured to make their market interventions fair,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Commerce had earlier sought a detailed report from the rubber board following the NITI Aayog recommendation.

However, a final decision in this regard will be taken by the Centre after evaluating the NITI Aayog’s observation and the stance of the ministry, which is of the view that the board should remain.
