Kochi: Revenue Minister E Chandrasekharan said that rehabilitation in connection with the heavy rains in the state is going on in the right direction.
The rain is still continuing in most districts, including Idukki. With precautions taken early, a major disaster has been averted without much damage to life. And the Army has been hired for help to deal with the emerging dangers of the torrential rains, the minister added.
As the shutters of the Idukki dam was opened, the nearby areas have already been submerged. So the water released from the Idamalyar dam has been controlled to avoid any further damage.
The central team camping in Kerala have not left the state. They have seen and experienced the situation which would prove favourable to Kerala, said the minister.
The minister also added that people should stay alert while carrying out rituals including Bali Tharpanam (ancestoral offering).
The public should co-operate with the government and be cautious while engaging themselves in social media platforms. Other major decisions would be taken after the assessment meeting, he added.
