Thiruvananthapuram: The central government rejected the recommendation of the state government to give promotion to ADGPs S Ananthakrishnan and K Padmakumar.

The state chief secretary requested for their promotion to DGPs by creating two new ex-cadre posts. However, the central government has stated that only four DGP posts are allotted for Kerala.

Earlier, the state government extended the service of incumbent state police chief Anil Kant to two more years. He was supposed to retire on January 31. However, this further delayed the promotion of ADGPs to DGPs.

S Ananthakrishnan was originally supposed to be promoted to the vacancy left by Anil Kant. To tackle this issue, the state government requested for two new ex-cadre posts to be allowed for Kerala. The state also demanded that their pay scale be revised to DGPs.
