Kannur: The CBI charge sheet against CPM Kannur district secretary P Jayarajan and MLA T V Rajesh in the murder of MSF worker Ariyil Shukkoor is the latest example of misusing the central agency to pursue political opponents, the CPM has said.
A statement released by the party’s Kannur district secretariat said the move was a political play in view of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls and sought strong opposition.
According to the statement, the violence started after a group of criminals from Muslim League tried to murder the CPM leaders in Pattuvam panchayat. The CPM leaders were visiting areas where IUML leaders had unleashed violence. Unfortunately, a murder took place in Kannapuram panchayat the same day. Taking advantage of the situation, Oommen Chandy had suggested to include as accused the CPM leaders who were hospitalized in IUML attack.
The Kerala police submitted a charge sheet in the Thalassery sessions court including section 118 of IPC with two IUMl leaders as witnesses. However, these witnesses in an affidavit submitted in the Taliparamba court stated that they had not been to the hospital or its premises where the leaders were admitted, the statement added.
The CBI registered conspiracy charges including these witnesses. The move comes without new witnesses or evidences. In doing so, the central agency has supported a political game, the statement said and hoped that the people will realise it.
