Thalassery: The CBI has booked murder charges against CPM Kannur district secretary P. Jayarajan in the murder of MSF worker Ariyil Shukkoor.
CBI submitted the charge sheet against P. Jayarajan today at the Thalassery Sessions Court and was charged with sections 302 and 120 B for murder and conspiracy. Charges of conspiracy has been charged against MLA T. V. Rajesh too.
The charge sheet was submitted in Thalassery Sessions Court two weeks ago. Earlier, section 118 was charged against P. Jayarajan for concealing design to commit offence as he already knew that Shukkoor was caught by the party workers.
However, he was charged with murder after further investigation by CBI after taking statements from media persons and others. Shukkoor was killed on February 20, 2012 and the case was taken up by CBI in 2016. The charge sheet is submitted seven years after the murder.
An attack occurred against the car in which P. Jayarajan and T. V. Rajesh was travelling and minor clashes took place following this. MSF worker Shukkoor was killed amid these clashes. According to the case, Shukkoor was held and the murderers ensured after taking his photograph that he was among the attackers at the clash.
CBI has found that the conspiracy took place at the hospital. Amid the reports that Jayarajan is likely to contest from Kannur or Vadakara in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the charge sheet will put CPM I the defensive. Meanwhile, P. Jayarajan declined to comment on the matter.
