Thiruvananthapuram: Pothencode police have registered a case against a local cable TV channel owner and employees for defrauding money in the name of a bedridden man. The case was registered against Attingal-based Vismaya News owner Rajaneesh, anchor Rajith Karyathil, employee Aneesh and his wife Remya.

The complaint was filed by Sheeba, who lives in a rented house in Vengad. Sheeba’s brother Shiju fell from a building in 2018 and has been undergoing treatment for back and neck injuries since then. The channel offered to help Sheeba, her brother and their mother Indira as they were financially struggling.

On October 13, Aneesh and Ranjith filmed a video at their house in the name of medical treatment. They also collected a payment of Rs 17,000 from the family twice.

A total of Rs 1,50,000 was credited into Sheeba’s account after the video was broadcast on the channel and posted on social media. According to Sheeba’s complaint, the accused took Rs 1,30,000 from this by threatening her.

Police investigated the complaint and registered a fraud case against the accused. They said that the accused would be taken into custody soon.
